Charlotte’s Web
by Felisa and Rose

Our first reading group book was Charlotte’s Web. There were three groups: green, pink, and blue. There were six people in each group. The green group met on Mondays with Mrs.Yedwab, the pink group met on Wednesdays, and the blue group met on Thursdays.

We had three chapters and an activitiy to finsh each week. Some of the activities were: a cross word puzzle, Spiderific, and a Newspaper article.

We had to bring three text-to-self connections to our discussion group each week. If we finished our reading, connections, and activity, we got a star in our folder.

Green group had green folders, pink group had pink folders, and blue group had blue folders. Everybody got to write their name and decorate their folders with any decorations they wanted. All the folders were pretty.

The book was very good. Fern and Charlotte saved Wilbur. Wilbur saved Charlotte’s egg sac. Templeton saved Charlotte. These are the main characters in the book. After we read the book, we saw the movie.

Class Jobs
by Aaron

We have a lot of class jobs. Some of the jobs we have are Lunchbox Carrier, Morning Message Announcer/Silent Signer, and Door Holder. The Lunchbox Carriers carry the lunchboxes down to the cafeteria on our way to recess, then bring them back after lunch. During Morning Meeting, the Morning Message Announcer/Silent Signer reads the morning message. At the end of the day, the Morning Message Announcer/Silent Signer chooses the silent sign the class will do at the end of the day to show we are ready to be dismissed. The door holders hold the door wherever we go and there are three door holders.

An explanation of the partial sums method of addition.

When you add using the partial sums method, you add based on place value. Here is an example:

Super Spellers
by Lillian and Angela

In Mrs. Yedwab’s third grade class we have something called Super Spellers. Last month (December) the Super Spellers were Lillian, Nick, Angela,Thomas and Sean. How you get to be a Super Speller is by getting all the words from your spelling test correct for that whole month. When you are a Super Speller, you get a ten on your test and you get to be on the website. We think it encourages kids to learn their spelling words because of the great rewards in Mrs. Yedwab’s third grade class.

Morning Meeting
by Sean

Morning Meeting is fun because we do fun activities and sharing. At Morning Meeting we have sharing, greeting, an activity, and we read the morning message. Sharing is when we bring something in from home and tell about it. The greeting is when we say “Hi” to each other. The activity is when we play a fun game together. The morning message is where we can sign up for sharing.

Class Jobs
by Nick

We have a lot of class jobs. Some of our jobs are the chalkboard washers, table washers, and the caboose. The table washers wash the tables after everyone eats lunch. The caboose is the last person in line and checks if everyone is in front of him or her. The chalkboard washers wash both chalkboards on Friday. All the class jobs are very important because if you didn’t have class jobs everything wouldn’t be neat and would also be out of order.

Ms.Robinson
by Erika and Malayna

Our student teacher, Ms. Robinson, left a few months ago. We had a surprise party! Everyone was sad when she left. We are happy to know she is coming back!

Ms.Robinson taught us lots of things like partial sums. She also taught us how to write friendly letters. Now lots of kids write to her.

She is very nice! At Morning Meeting she would sit next to us. We liked when she did that! We are glad to see her again!

She is so pretty. She has light blue eys and blonde hair. She is pretty tall. She had to take a small group of students to pass a test to be a teacher and do a math class with them. She left in October. She stayed for two months. It was so fun having her! We can’t wait until she comes back!

My Life at Lafayette
by Luke

Hi. I'm Luke and I'm going to tell you about my life at Lafayette. First of all, I will tell you about my friends, Nick and Sean. Although we do get in fights sometimes, we are still best friends. I've known Sean since I was three months old. We play together every recess.

My teacher, Mrs. Yedwab, is very nice. I also have an art teacher, a music teacher, a PE teacher, and a dance teacher. They are all nice, too.

Now that you know about all my teachers, I'm going to tell you about one weird thing I've done. I've dyed my hair blue and when it finally came out after a couple of months, I dyed it red!

That's basically my life at Lafayette.

Here at Lafayette we have specials. They are art, music, and PE. In art, we are making Onion Domes. Some kids in art like making onion domes and some don't. Our art teacher is Ms. McLaughlin. In music we are learning to play the recorder. The teacher is Mrs. Stump. She is really nice. In PE, we are going to climb the climbing wall. Our teacher is Ms. McClure. Those are our specials. They are really fun.

Recess
by Sam

One of my favorite things at school is recess. When we first go out at noon, my class goes out to something called the greentop. The greentop has basketball courts, a wall to practice tennis, and a place to play four-square. After we play on the greentop, we go to lunch. At lunch, certain people have certain jobs after we eat. After lunch, we go back outside to the field. On the field, we can play kickball, football, dodgeball, and run races. This is what third and fourth graders do at recess.

The Stages of Writers Workshop
by Abby

Writers Workshop has seven stages, and I will write about four of them. Planning is when you plan your stories. There are five different planning sheets we have. Planning sheets are sheets that really are the ones that help you plan. After you plan, you start drafting, which is when you write your first draft. You have to skip lines on your draft so that there is room to edit. You can almost write as messy as you want, but other people have to be able to read it. Publishing is when you write very neatly because it is your final draft. Illustration is when you draw a picture to go with your writing. Most people think illustrations are not very important, but Mrs. Yedwab said, "Illustrations are very important." Writers Workshop is very fun!

The World of Lafayette
by Thomas

Hi. I'm Thomas and I will tell you about my life at Lafayette. First, the whole class shakes hands when everybody is sitting in a circle at Morning Meeting. Then, we share and do an activity. Every week, we change jobs. Some of the jobs in our classroom are Official Helpers, Morning Message Announcer, Librarian, and Custodian. You get the idea. So, what we do in school is sometimes simple, and sometimes hard. I'm cool in Mrs. Yedwab's class.

Math with Mr. T is a cool. We did measurement and, of course, M-A-T-H. Our specials are Library with Ms. McIntosh, Dance with Ms. Lindsay, PE with Ms. McClure, Art with Ms. McLaughlin, Teaching Peace with Ms. Ryden, and Music with Mrs. Stump.

One time, we carved pumpkins with my dad, Michael. We dug all of the seeds out of the pumpkins. You can see pictures here.

These are some of the things going on at Lafayette.
